No, I'm not talking about the 1999 cult classic movie.... I am referring to the new space Two Rivers is going to be renting.
Yesterday at church we made the fun annoucement that we are going to be renting some additional rental space at the Kids Against Hunger (KAH) building here in Mankato. We will continue to have Sunday worship at Lincoln Community Center, but now will have 4 rooms (roughly 1200 sq ft. total) that we will soon be able to use full-time for things outside Sunday mornings. We also feel great that the rent money we will pay each month will go towards Kids Against Hunger's mission to feed starving children throughout the world. It feels like a huge win/win situation!!! Thank you God!
If you weren't around yesterday, I shared a bit about the building in my message yesterday, as well as some other plans we have for the rest of the year... it's up on www.trvc.org if you want to listen to it.
The space at KAH is in really great shape overall, but there a few things that we want to do to make the space usuable for our purposes. Here are a few opportunities to help in that regard:
We have our main work day scheduled for this Saturday, April 5th, starting at 9:30 AM. We plan to have three or four work teams: 1) We volunteered to help KAH install some insulation and ceiling tiles in their main area that they prepare the food packets that are sent overseas. This work will be repetitive, but not taxing... KAH has some rolling scaffolding that we can use, and one ladder, but if anyone has a large industrial ladder (8ft or taller), we could use that. If you'd like to help with that area, please come dressed and ready to handle insulation (long sleeves, gloves, for sure... eye guards recommended. we'll have some filter masks available for you). We'd like to have 6-8 people working on this project if possible
2) Misc. maintenance projects: several office doors that need to be trimmed slightly to shut correctly; change out the doorknobs on five of the doors; lights that need to be replaced; remove plywood covers from several outside windows (they were on there just for insulation value previously...) once those are taken off, we may need to do some caulking around the windows.
3) Painting/Decorating: more details still to come on this, but I know we'll have some projects to do along those lines... we'll have some painting supplies, but if you'd like to help in this area, you can bring some of your own as well.
4) Depending on how the schedule goes Saturday, we may end up installing some shelving in the back room that will be used for child care/kids things periodically. Andrea is also going to eventually hold her Music Together classes there, so she will be donating whatever is needed for that room. A few of us are going to be down at the building tonight at 6:30 PM... I could use some help moving some ceiling tiles and some extra desks. If you are able to help with that... shoot me an e-mail or give me a call (380-2844)
Our church council will be meeting on Sunday night to discuss any other budget items that we may be looking at for furnishing the space. Of course, anything that we can get donated will help reduce the amount that we have to look at taking out of the general budget. Here are a few items that we are working on:
1) three of the rooms need carpet (10x13, 11x13 and 17x20) - I have an acquiantance that runs a carpet business that I am going to be contacting this week, but the more options the better... let me know if you have contacts that may be interested in donating some carpet or labor (or at least at cost...)
2) we'd like to have a TV and a DVD/VCR that we can put on a rolling cart (anyone have one more TV and DVD/VCR player than you need?)
3) we are also looking to set up two couch seating areas in the biggest room... we would like this to look very nice and color coordinated, so donating money towards that project may be the most helpful. That said, if you do have nicer, newer stuff that you might want to donate... get a hold of us and we can see if it would work.
4) Once we get a plan for the decorating of the area, several of the windows need curtains...we'd love your help if you have skills along those lines.
We are excited about this new opportunity and the season we're entering as a church. God is good.
