Adjusted to "Mexican" time

We have a busy and exciting day today (including celebrating with a group of Puerta Vallartan people getting baptized!)   I'll try to post some things about that tomorrow when we have a little time off.  For today, I thought would write about the schedule that we are adjusting to in Mexico.  My wife Andrea lived in Mexico for for 4 months during college, so she had given me a little bit of a heads up, but I didn't quite get it until I had been here for a few days.

This week, we typically have woken up around 8:00 AM, and spend some time getting ready for the day.  Breakfast is between 9:00-10:00.  Yesterday, our Mexican pastor friends treated us to a homemade breakfast of wheat pancakes, eggs & salsa, and fresh fruit.   For us, we've been spending the later mornings taking some time to do some Bible devotions and pray for our day ahead.  Around 11:30 or 12:00, we have gone out to the colonias to deliver shoes and pray for people.  Yesterday, we did that for a couple of hours and then went to Walmart to buy some food for the remaining outreaches we have for the weekend.  We got back to our hotel just before 4:00 PM.  Because we had such a large breakfast, I only needed a little snack, and was able to take some time to relax and recoup.  Our Minnesota friends, the Marsdens got a nap in, and Craig Brooks and I were able to sit by the pool for a little bit, and talk to our families via Skype.

After our little siesta was done, Mario came to pick us up and take us out to the colonia again.  We arrived a little before 7:00 and got set up in the park for the evening gathering.  Mario lead some music, and Craig shared a bit of his faith story, and then we had an opportunity to pray for anyone who wanted prayer.   We were mostly done with that by 9:30, but then Mario and Lety were talking with a few of the people who are getting baptized today, answering questions and helping them get prepared.   We finished loading up the van at 10:20 - just in time for what else... but dinner?!?    We drove down to Mario & Lety's favorite quesidilla stand (which is thankfully gringo friendly...)   This stand opens for dinner at 8:00 PM (for the early eaters...) and is open until 4:00 AM.    The food was fantastic, and lots of it.  I had a huge pork quesidilla with beans and rice.  Thankfully, Mario is really kind and helps direct us towards salsas and toppings that will be okay for us.  Last night he saved me from eating very, very hot peppers that were mixed into the onions I had put on my quesidilla.   We finished eating about 11:15 and got the check - 400 pesos for 9 of us to eat sizable meals and drinks.  That is roughly $3 USD per person!

We got back to the hotel, and I took a little time to read my email (can't quite get away from that...) and got to bed around 12:45... just in time to get enough rest to do it all again today.  :)
