I had a neat interaction with my kids tonight that I just had to share. Earlier today I was helping a family in our church pack up their stuff to move to Washington state (that's a bummer). But, one of the things that came out of the packing adventure was that our friend Lori had a compilation set of 100 favorite classical music pieces that she gave me.... things like Moonlight Sonata, Pachelbel's Cannon, a bunch of Mozart music, etc...
Anyway, when I brought the CD's home tonight my daughters went nuts. They were so excited to listen to the different pieces, especially the ones that they were familiar with. You might ask, how do 6 and 8 year olds get to be music connesures? I was a music major in college, and my wife, Andrea does teach pre-school aged music... but that's not the primary place that they were familiar with most of the music. Instead, most of their exposure came through the Disney program "Little Einsteins". We don't even have Disney Channel at our house, but whenever our girls are at either of their Grandma's, they just eat up all the Little Einsteins they can get. In any case, Grace and Kate have become familiar with some of the great pieces of classical music, and have come to appreciate the beauty it can bring to life.
Maybe this scenario sounds a little music-geeky to you... but it was something that really touched me.
