I received this update from our pastors in Cedar Rapids regarding the flood relief efforts going on through Mercy Response.
General Press Release:
The FLOOD WATERS OF 2008 have now come and gone and the RESTORATION EFFORTS have now begun! We have over 4,000 homes with 25,000 people evacuated in Cedar Rapids and 1,300 city blocks (9 square miles) where major business and residential properties have received extensive flood damage! The recovery efforts will be MASSIVE! Our church building is safe and sound, and we are NOW actively involved in the CEDAR RAPIDS and LINN COUNTY FLOOD RELIEF EFFORTS! VINEYARD CHURCH of CEDAR RAPIDS has joined hands with our VINEYARD-USA MERCY RESPONSE TEAM from New Orleans. Their team comes to Linn County with nearly three years of hands-on Katrina relief experience! Together we are coordinating volunteer efforts out of CAMP VINEYARD located at 5101 16th Ave SW in Cedar Rapids. We have enough equipment to get 100 volunteers into area-wide neighborhoods each day, cleaning up and gutting homes, offering our neighbors the much-needed relief they need NOW! We're sending out WORK CREWS throughout Cedar Rapids and Linn County on a daily basis. Teams are deploying from CAMP VINEYARD at 8 AM and 5:30 PM weekdays and 9 AM on Saturdays. Volunteers are coming in from around the Midwest and we need WORKERS & VOLUNTEERS at CAMP VINEYARD who can donate generously their time, energy & resources, helping us rebuild the broken lives of nearly 25,000 people in Linn County alone. We need volunteers to go into neighborhoods to work and volunteers to assist our camp in serving the volunteers who are coming from around the nation! YOU CAN HELP! CAMP VINEYARD is open NOW to all VOLUNTEERS and will run minimally through Labor Day, 2008.
