A friend from church emailed me some helpful tips for maintaining a healthy level of insanity.... Here's a few good ones: 1. At lunchtime, sit in your parked car with sunglasses on and point a hair dryer at passing cars. See if they slow down...

Helpful Bible reading/study tools
Brian's Blog By admin on Monday, December 29, 2008
Yesterday my sermon was focused on "How to read the Bible for all its worth" - based largely on Gordon Fee and Douglas Stuart's book of the same title. In the message I mentioned several Bible reading/study tools that people might find helpful. I thought I would post some links to a those and a few others.

Vineyard Pastor featured in Significant Living Magazine
Brian's Blog By admin on Tuesday, December 16, 2008
I got this article forwarded to me from one of our fellow Midwestern Vineyard pastors. Robby Dawkins leads the Vineyard Church in Aurora, IL and has an amazing story of how God helped him face a food addiction and lose 250 pounds in 14 months. Here is a link to the article that highlights some of Robby's story. www.trvc.org/Portals/0/RobbyDawkins.pdf

The place where Keifer Sutherland and World Vision meet
Brian's Blog By admin on Monday, November 24, 2008
Andrea and I had an interesting experience last night. We had gotten home from a great day of church activities - fun Sunday service talking about World Vision and then a potluck and TRVC Partners meeting at night. To wind down for the night, we had recorded the 2 hour special of "24" that was on FOX last night. (Although, I don't know that watching 24 is a very effective way to wind down!) Anyway - we were blown away with the setting and subject matter of 24, and how amazingly that related to things we had just talked about earlier that day.

My first (and potentially last) time as a guest on AM talk radio...
Brian's Blog By admin on Wednesday, November 19, 2008
Today, I had the opportunity to join my friend, Jeff Heidkamp in an interesting pursuit today. Jeff is the pastor of Mercy Vineyard Church in Minneapolis, and the editor of Cutting Edge, a quarterly magazine that Vineyard churches puts out about church planting. A guy in Jeff's church asked him to be the guest host for a radio program he produces, Along The Way, and I got asked to be Jeff's guest on the program.

A daily spiritual exercise to try out
Brian's Blog By admin on Saturday, November 08, 2008
These past couple of weeks, I've been reading an interesting book called Heroic Leadership that connects advice to businesspeople with teachings from 450 years of the Jesuits. The author, Chris Lowney, who was both a former Jesuit and now an investment banker, writes about a spiritual exercise that was common to the Jesuits The “examen” it was called - a twice-a-day time of “self-examination,” that is actually scheduled into your day... just a few minutes to recalibrate yourself with life and God, as well as to your work.

This week, Andrea and I get the treat of heading to the annual Fall Midwest Vineyard pastor's retreat. The past few years it's been held in Green Lake, WI, which if you've never been there is absolutely gorgeous this time of year.
